How can you develop your own music style/sound?

Im currently in a band and we are trying to create a unique sound (rock music). What are the best ways to experiment and come up with good stuff?
How can you develop your own music style/sound?
The best answer I can give on this seems like an obvious one:

Be %26quot;honest%26quot;. Do what you like, regardless of what other people think about your music. Music is a form of art, and art is about expressing yourself. You are a unique person, so, if you write %26quot;honestly%26quot;, you%26#039;re music will be as unique as you are .

On a more practical note: Look at things from different perspectives. If you find a sound you like (even if it%26#039;s not musical) try to incorporate that into your music. If you want to try a musical idea that seems ridiculous, go for it. After all, if it doesn%26#039;t work out, nobody has to hear it.

As a band, you could also appoint a practice every now and then to just making up music on the spot, with no intention of writing something or doing things a certain way. Avoid preconceived notions. Just make organized noise together, and I gaurantee that eventually it will spark some very unique ideas.

Hope that helps a bit!

By playing and more playing. Play the stuff you love. Let yourself be free to write down, put together, and actually keep the stuff you write. If it doesn%26#039;t work, put it in your guitar case and come back to it. It will work great later.

And def don%26#039;t force yourself to try to sound %26#039;new%26#039; or anything like that. If you play/sing and you respect those greats that came before you, don%26#039;t try to be different for the sake of being different, that%26#039;s sorta arrogant. Just play your stuff, it will come out and end up being different anyway. There is nothing new under the sun.

But to answer the last part of your ?, the best way is to expand your musical vocabulary. I love rock and all sorts of music. Never limit or pigeon hole yourself by saying %26#039;I only listen to this sort of music%26#039;. I go from the Stripes to Radiohead to Zep to Old Crow Medicine Show. I pull a little from each. Music rules!
Reply:The best ways to discover your style is to play along different music you like. Somehow, somewhere, something is going to make you realize that you are more at ease in certain music and in certain fingerings when you solo.

You have to be creative and do your own thing. i practiced all the scales and when I solo, I will build improvsation arounf the melody as much as possible.

Practice makes perfect. Don%26#039;t be afraid to record yourself and experiment even if you make mistake.
