in wicked when they sing No one mourns the Wicked for the firt time.... who do they think is dead? Is it Nessa? I am seeing it on Broadway this summer but so far Ive only heard the songs.

No One Mourns The Wicked is the equivalent to Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead from the Wizard of Oz. The former celebrating the death of Elphaba and the latter the death of Nessa.

good question....i saw the play a while ago (great play, by the way) and its probably not nessa, since nessa is elphie%26#039;s sister and is alive throughout the musical, so im really not sure? you%26#039;ll just have to find out when you see the play--besides if i knew, you wouldnt want me to ruin anything ! :)
Reply:No, they%26#039;re singing about Elphaba. The beginning of the show takes place after everything has happened with Dorothy and then goes back in time when Glinda starts telling the story of her and Elphaba in school together. At first I thought it was Nessa but then I realized they were singing about the witch of the west, not east.
